Civic Arena
Civic Arena
A historic open-air venue in the heart of Sempione Park
Built during the Napoleonic era, the Arena Civica is one of Milan's most atmospheric locations for concerts, sports events, and cultural gatherings.
The Civic Arena (Arena Civica) is a neoclassical stadium located within Sempione Park, built between 1806 and 1807 under Napoleon's rule. Designed by architect Luigi Canonica, the arena was inspired by ancient Roman amphitheatres and could originally accommodate up to 30,000 spectators.
Throughout its history, the arena has hosted a remarkable variety of events: from chariot races and naval battles (the arena could be flooded with water) to football matches, athletics competitions, and major concerts. It served as the home stadium for both AC Milan and Inter Milan in their early years.
Today, the Arena Civica — officially named Arena Civica Gianni Brera in honour of the famous Italian sports journalist — continues to host athletics events, concerts, and cultural performances. The venue's unique atmosphere, surrounded by the greenery of Sempione Park, makes every event a special experience.
