The ‘Leonardo da Vinci’ National Museum of Science and Technology
The ‘Leonardo da Vinci’ National Museum of Science and Technology
Italy's largest science and technology museum
Housed in a 16th-century monastery, this extraordinary museum celebrates human ingenuity — from Leonardo's visionary inventions to space exploration.
The Museo Nazionale della Scienza e della Tecnologia "Leonardo da Vinci" is Italy's largest science and technology museum and one of the most important of its kind in Europe. Located in a former Olivetan monastery dating from the early 1500s, the museum spans over 50,000 square metres and houses more than 19,000 objects.
The museum's most famous section is dedicated to Leonardo da Vinci, featuring the world's largest collection of models based on his drawings and codices. Visitors can explore working reconstructions of his machines, from flying devices to hydraulic systems and military equipment.
Beyond Leonardo, the collections cover transport (including real trains, aircraft, and the submarine Enrico Toti), energy, materials, communication, and space exploration. The interactive laboratories offer hands-on experiences for visitors of all ages, making complex scientific concepts accessible and engaging.
The museum regularly hosts temporary exhibitions, educational workshops, and special events that explore the intersection of science, technology, and society.
