MUDEC - Museum of Cultures

A world of art and cultures in Milan's creative Tortona district

Housed in a stunning contemporary building, MUDEC showcases ethnographic collections and hosts acclaimed international exhibitions.

MUDEC (Museo delle Culture) is Milan's museum dedicated to world cultures, located in the vibrant Tortona district — the city's hub for design and contemporary art. The museum is housed in a striking building designed by British architect David Chipperfield, combining restored industrial structures with bold contemporary architecture.

The permanent collection features over 7,000 ethnographic objects from Africa, Asia, Oceania, and the Americas, originally collected by Milanese explorers, missionaries, and scholars. The museum also hosts major temporary exhibitions featuring renowned international artists and cultural themes.

Beyond the exhibitions, MUDEC offers a design store, a bistro, and a fine dining restaurant, making it a complete cultural destination. The surrounding Tortona district is home to design studios, art galleries, and trendy bars, particularly lively during Milan Design Week.

Distance from Lancaster Hotel: approximately 40 minutes, or 10 minutes by taxi. Also accessible via tram lines 14 and 9.
