Vertical Forest
Vertical Forest
An award-winning example of sustainable architecture
Two residential towers covered with over 900 trees and 20,000 plants — the Vertical Forest has become a global icon of green urban design.
The Vertical Forest (Bosco Verticale) is a pair of residential towers located in the Porta Nuova district, designed by architect Stefano Boeri and completed in 2014. The buildings are covered with approximately 900 trees, 5,000 shrubs, and 11,000 perennial plants, creating a unique vertical ecosystem in the heart of Milan.
This innovative project was conceived to combat urban pollution and promote biodiversity. The vegetation absorbs CO2 and dust particles, produces oxygen, and provides natural insulation, reducing energy consumption for heating and cooling.
The Vertical Forest has received numerous international awards, including the International Highrise Award in 2014 and recognition as one of the most innovative buildings in the world. The towers have inspired similar projects in cities across Europe and Asia.
The surrounding Porta Nuova district offers modern architecture, trendy restaurants, and the beautiful Biblioteca degli Alberi park, perfect for a leisurely stroll.
Walking distance from Lancaster Hotel: approximately 35 minutes, or 10 minutes by taxi through the city centre.
